Victory Day of King Prithu of Kamarupa Celebrated by department of History in association with IQAC

On 13 Chaitra, 1947 Shaka (27 September), Thursday, in the Tezpur College premises, the Victory Day of King Prithu of Kamarupa was celebrated with the courtesy of Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti, Sonitpur District, and with the collaboration of the History Department of Tezpur College. Under the chairmanship of Dr. Ranendra Mohan Deka, the program commenced, and at the beginning of the event, the History Department of Tezpur College felicitated Chairman Dr. Ranendra Mohan Deka, editor Chandana Devi, executive chairman Dr. Dulal Chandra Das, and organizational secretary Sudarshan Sahu. A student, Bhrishti Rani Koch, mesmerized attendees with her melodious song. 

The purpose of the meeting was explained by editor Chandana Devi. Principal Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika delivered the welcome speech. He appreciated this initiative of Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti. He stated that old histories were written under the directives of kings and emperors, so there is a need to restore the truth, and through such discussions and analyses, various aspects of King Prithu will surely come to light.

In the meeting, the keynote speech was delivered by Sudarshan Chahu, the organizational secretary of Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti, Sonitpur district. In his speech, he discussed topics such as Muhammad Ghori's invasion of India, the terror caused by Bakhtiyar Khilji in India, the destruction at Nalanda University, the burning of its library, Bakhtiyar Khilji's invasions of Bengal and Odisha, the Kamrup expedition, Maharaja Prithu's wisdom, his use of guerrilla warfare to repel and defeat enemy attacks, and various elements of these invasions. He mentioned the Kanai Boroshi Boa inscription, which refers to these invasions, Dr. Raktim Patar's book on Maharaja Prithu, the management of Prithu's army, subsequent invaders like Ghiyasuddin, and analyses of many such aspects. During Prithu's fierce assault, Bakhtiyar Khilji barely managed to save his life by jumping into the Brahmaputra River and eventually returned to Devakoot.


Following this, in the Q&A session, Professor Pronabjyoti Das, Karuna Hazarika, Bakul Roy, Dr. Kuntal Sharma, Sourav Kumar, and others presented various views about Prithu. In the presidential address, Dr. Ranendra Mohan Deka emphasized the importance of establishing history using uncompiled and endangered historical facts. He expressed the necessity of discussing Prithu and revisiting ancient historical records and writings from a fresh perspective. At the end of the meeting, editor Chandana Devi offered a token of appreciation, and the session concluded with  Kalyana mantra.
