The Department of Mathematics, Tezpur College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), observed National Mathematics Day on 22nd December with a special virtual program to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The event, which commenced at 7:00 PM, was officially inaugurated by the Head of the Mathematics Department. Then IQAC coordinator of Tezpur College, Dr. Rajlakshmi Sonowal delivered the introductory address, highlighting the significance of the day and the department's commitment to fostering a love for numbers among students.
A key highlight of the evening was a scholarly speech titled "Celebrating the Man Who Knew Infinity," delivered by HoD Dr. Himangshu Hazarika. Dr. Hazarika paid tribute to Ramanujan’s extraordinary genius, detailing his journey and his profound contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, and infinite series.
The program saw active participation from 27 students and 6 faculty members representing various academic departments, showcasing an interdisciplinary interest in the subject. The session concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Dr. Rajlakshmi Sonowal. Despite being held in online mode, the event successfully inspired the participants to appreciate the beauty and heritage of Indian mathematics.
